Historische Szenarien I & II

Historische Szenarien I & II are alternate scenarios for The Settlers of Catan game.

Die Siedler von Catan: Historische Szenarien (1998)

This was the first of the historic expansions for Catan. The set included two scenarios in the set. The first is based on Cheops and the building of the pyramids, while the second is based on Alexander the Great.

There were 4 versions of this first set. Two are the first and second German editions of the game. The game was also released in Dutch and Danish too.

  1. Die Siedler von Catan: Historische Szenarien ‐ German edition (1998)
    Publisher: KOSMOS

  2. Die Siedler von Catan: Historische Szenarien ‐ German second edition (1998)
Publisher: KOSMOS (new Blue Logo added and box redesigned)

  3. De Kolonisten van Catan: Historische Scenario's I ‐ Dutch edition (2002)
    Publisher: 999 Games, Kosmos

  4. The Settlers fra Catan: Historiske Scenarier ‐ Danish edition (1998)

  5. Die Siedler von Catan: Historische Szenarien ‐ German/English edition (1998)
Publisher: KOSMOS but released in the USA by Mayfair

Die Siedler von Catan: Historische Szenarien II (2001)

This is the second historic scenario set released for Catan. The scenarios in this edition cover the great Wall of China and the Trojan Wars.
This second set was initially only released in German and then three years later also in Dutch.

    Publisher: KOSMOS

  2. De Kolonisten van Catan: Historische Scenario's II ‐ Dutch edition (2004)

Just when I thought I had all the versions....
An interesting Catan story on a very rare map.

In the 2nd issue of the 1997 Catan newsletter in Germany, there was an article on an upcoming Egypt and Pyramids scenario called Ramses. This was to be a single sheep map.

Amusingly, when the single page map was released the name had been changed to Cheops as it turned out Ramses had not built any pyramids. However this new single page map had a printing error and the gold fields had been left off. The misprinted map was quickly withdrawn from circulation and was not released again. Today very few copies are known to exist.

cheops de map1997I was advised of this poster by an amazing German collector who has found out about a number of early German items I think I will never see.

The Cheops map was released again later as part of 'Historische Szenarien I' in 1998.

This early HS set was then later redeveloped again into my favourite Catan spin-off game, the 2014 'Catan: Ancient Egypt.' A limited release Collectors Edition game Catan: Ancient Egypt was released in four languages.
