The Trade Guild Member

A small resource to help players gain resources they may have trouble collecting by dice throws.

 

The Story

The Trade Guild Member is a token that allows you to, once per turn, trade the resource you have just collected on a hex for another resource.

Pieces Needed

  • 1 x Trade Guld Member Token
  • 1 x Trade Guild Member Card

The Trade Guild member token here has been borrowed from the tokens used in Catan: Germany.

Instructions/Rules

Trade Guild Member - Rules

  • When a 7 is thrown you may choose not to move the robber (or pirate if using seafarers) and instead may move the Trade Guild Member token to any hex where you have a settlement or a city. After placing the hall you may take the Trade Guild card. This card adds no victory points to your score while in your possession.
  • When holding the Trade Guild card you gain two advantages:
  • Once per turn you may swap one resource of the hex type the Guild Member is on for one of any other resource type. You may do the first trade on the same turn as you place the token. For as long as you hold the Trade Guild card, when a 7 is rolled you only need to halve your hand if you have more than 9 cards. Each city wall adds two to this base amount if playing C&K.
  • Trading comes at a price though. Taxes must be paid. If a 2 or a 12 is thrown at any time while you possess the Trade Guild card, you must pay one resource of your choice to the bank. If you have no resource cards then no tax needs to be paid.

Additional Rules

  • This card can be taken by any other player when they roll a "7". The Trade Guild member token cannot be moved from the hex it is on without a "7" being thrown.
  • If a "7" is thrown the actions of the Robber happen BEFORE the Trade Guild token can be moved.
  • The Trade Guild token cannot be placed on any hex currently occupied by the robber.
  • If you have the aqueduct in C&K and are eligible to collect a resource, you do not pick up a resource if taxes are to be paid.
  • If playing C&K, you may not trade commodities instead. The Trade Guild only deal with resources.
  • You may use the trade function at any time during your turn. For example, if you start the turn without the resource type the token is on, but trade for it during your turn, you may then trade it once it is in your hand.
  • If you do not have any of the resource that the token is on, you may NOT trade another resource type instead.

These are the first version rules and will be refined as the scenario is played.
