My copies of the latest "Championship Official Tournament Kit 3" have arrived. It is called Kit 3 being the third tournament set to be released.
Each kit has had different contents. Kit 3 features the "Catan: Spring Hexes", the Rivals "Klaus, Guardian of Catan" cards, and 4 cool sets of playing pieces. It also has an exclusive winners pin too. Previous sets have had various items including Autumn hexes, Summer hexes and Oil Springs.
I was very fortunate to get the earlier boxes too. One through a friend in Sweden (who also sells Catan accessories including these amazing 3D sea chests) and one through an event that had no use for the box afterwards.
I think this means I have all three boxes released, but I am sure at some stage I will be told there are others I need to collect.
As well as a sealed set for my collection, I also bought a spare so that I could use the contents. I really want to start using the Spring hexes in my Seasons scenario.
I understand the 4th tournament kit will feature Winter hexes so that all 4 seasons will have been made available in exclusive releases. In the meantime I will use my GoT hexes for winter.
Just as an aside...
It is interesting to note that when I bought my copies, just a few weeks ago, there was one seller and it was properly advertised as a Tournament Kit. Since then there are now at least a dozen retailers in NZ and Australia who have this in stock as a standard Catan release (sadly for around 2/3rds the price I paid!).
However, probably through lack of understanding, it is often being called the Official Tournament Kit Board Game. I wonder how many buy it thinking they will be able to play Catan with just the contents of the kit alone.
