Following on from such recent items as the Malta Hex, or older items such as the Durango hex, there is now a new contender for rare collectible on the block.
On April 1 this year Catan ran a story on their Facebook page advising their pet sheep from the resource cards had wandered off and was lost. Staff were searching high and low. They even made a lost and found poster.
The next day they came clean about their April Fools prank and announced the lost sheep was a new marketing collaboration between Goat Simulator 3 and Catan. While the Catan sheep was visiting GS3, Pilgor from GS3 came to visit Catan.
To celebrate this event Catan made 30 custom packs of resource cards featuring Pilgor the goat as a guest on the card. These 30 packs were offered up as a special prize to 30 lucky people who entered their names into a prize draw. Sadly like so many Englsih specials this competition was only available to Americans. Catan enthusiasts elsewhere in the world, even English speaking ones in Asmodee's licensed markets were excluded.
After the competition was drawn the 30 packs were posted out. I am sure 30 very excited people were eagerly checking their mailboxes.
But that is not then end of the story. Fortunately for collectors like myself two of these sets have since hit eBay. The first sold for just over US$140, while the second went for just over US$200. Expensive sets, but still an interesting collectible.
Once these prices get known I am sure other sets will also become available, or Asmodee will release additional sets.
In the meantime I am just happy I have been able to get a set for my collection. This leaves me just six items to complete my collection of English products. The first two items I already have on preorder, while the last four I am still trying to get.
