This Seafarers/C&K expansion for the new 2021 3D Catan is just brilliant.
While the 2005 anniversary 3D set included C&K, seafarers has always been something I was keen to add. I hope this set is really successful for Catan as it is a brave move releasing a set that is not cheap due to the quality of the pieces. For me though such a high quality expansion does show Catan's passion for the game and their support of the Catan community.
Initial things I really like are the borders, the heavy duty calendars, the gold metropolis pieces and the design of the gold hexes. While I think the hand-painted resin buildings and roads of the 2005 set were nicer (and may use those in our games) the brushed effect plastic ones supplied are also very acceptable. The buildings get no complaint from me. Likewise the new cards look great and a very simple thing that makes me just go 'why was this never done before' is the double sided victory point cards for C&K.
The things I am not such a big fan of are my Barbarian attack border peice is warped so will not sit flat in use and I am not a huge fan of the smaller ships and knights. They feel very fragile, especially the knights. In the 2005 3D set the knights has metal rods the flags sat on and are amazingly strong. My worry is the thin plastic pole for the flag, and the small neck of the knight are going to easily break if care is not taken when in use.
There are also gold coins included in the set which are similar to those in the original 'Struggle for Rome' game. I assume these are for a two player game, but without my missing rule book I will wait and confirm this.
I will do more images of the set and layouts in the future once I have my new Catan area tidied up.

Our first layout.
A mini-version of Greater Catan where you remove a number from the main island each time you reach an outer hex.
