Catakatoa is one of the rare pieces of Catan memorabilia that many know but few have seen. It was the first English volcano scenario and featured in the March 2005 issue of Game Trade Magazine.
Using this hex, replaces the desert in the standard game. Settlements can be built along the volcano tile, but if the dice rolls the number of that corner, the lava will wash away the settlements built there. But if you aren't destroyed, you receive more resources for your bravery.
I have always wanted this magazine for my collection. Last year I was really excited to get a good quality PDF version. Then early in 2021 I saw a page ripped from the original magazine for sale. Even though it was $40, I thought it was likely to be the only time I may see one and grabbed it. As the cost of postage was crazy I had this sent to a fellow Cataner in the USA who had offered to receive my purchases and forward them as one parcel to reduce costs.
This collector sent the page on and made note of a "little bonus" that had been included. Imagine my surprise when I open the package and there is not only the single Catakatoa page ripped from a magazine, but also included was a beautiful mint condition copy of the whole magazine with the page still ijn it.
I am just so happy to have this magazine in my collection. Thank you M - I will not forget your very kind gift.
